THE FOUNDER

Before Tous, David spent years inside the entertainment industry, at Disney and IMAX, gathering people to read stories and go to the movies. Then he built a second career training executives in high performance life skills, communication, public speaking, and sales leadership at some of France's leading global media companies. He also wrote a best selling transformational love story, a book about savoring today, in an uncertain world.

Alongside all of that, for thirty years, there has been hosting.

Dinner parties became the place where he actually found himself, cooking, gathering, welcoming strangers into his home until they left feeling like the evening had been made just for them, having experienced something new and often surprising about themselves and the others. Then full day soul restoring retreats with performance arts, culinary arts and human connection became his focus, though at times the people who most needed them never quite found their way there.

And through it all, a devotion to meeting people, introducing them to each other, and then doing the part most people skip, staying engaged in relationships long after they began.

Somewhere in those years he noticed something simple. A room only opens once people feel safe enough to put their guard down. Get someone out of their head for even one evening, and they come back to life.

He also knew the other side of a room. The quiet ache of living between cities, of finding out too late about the thing he would have loved, of being the one people assumed already had somewhere to be, so the invitations quietly stopped coming. Of feeling forgotten. That ache is part of why he started noticing the people standing at the edge of every gathering, the ones nobody thought to invite or include.

He thinks often of his grandfather, who welcomed anonymous immigrants into his safe haven pharmacy in New York, and his father, who spent years sending people newspaper clippings to let them know he was thinking about them. And his mother, who hosted and entertained friends, family and strangers in their home with the performance arts he grew up around. In his family, welcome wasn't a strategy, it was just how love, allégresse (shared joy) and support were expressed and experienced.

Tous is David carrying that spirit and style of inclusion forward, at a scale his mom, father and grandfather never had the tools to reach.
